The ISCA Ball Trap, an improved version of the McPhail trap, is used for trapping a wide variety of flies and other insects. Among other advantages, it holds twice the volume of liquid attractants compared to the McPhail trap, and it has a larger and more flexible receptacle to contain a wider variety of solid and liquid attractants. Comparative field tests have shown the Ball trap to be superior to other fly traps such as the McPhail trap and the Dome trap.
Various Ball Trap colors are available to optimize insect species attraction based on trap color, since some insect species are more attracted to certain trap colors. For olive fruit fly and most fruit fly species, the yellow color Ball Trap is recommended. For houseflies and most Diptera species, the white color Ball Trap is recommended.
